Dinki Friends.... Meet Andrea AKA boss lady of 'It Won't Cost The Earth'
I love chatting to fellow small-biz owners about what gets them going and what grinds their gears about being your own boss. I have created a series of Q&As with some of my fave small brand owners in the hope we can share some behind the scenes insight into our lives as women in business.
I came across It Won't Cost The Earth, a new marketplace platform for eco brands via Instagram, and it instantly appealed. It's the perfect platform for the Dinki Human brand as our ethos' align perfectly. Andrea launched at the end of February with Dinki Human as a partner and we're so pleased to be a part of this great marketplace of eco-conscious brands. Andrea hasn't let on how much of a powerhouse she is in her answers below, her juggle is admirable! I can't wait to see It Won't Cost The Earth flourish.
Who are ya?
Depends what day it is! Today I’m an overworked, unpaid mum trying to do her little bit to be conscious of the world around us whilst helping other tired, overworked, underpaid people to do the same!
How and when did you come up with the idea for It Wont Cost The Earth?
In the pub! I was putting the world to rights over a bottle (or two) of wine with my girlfriends and whinging about some of my recent ‘eco’ buys turning up wrapped in bubble wrap. that was my lightbulb moment – shopping sustainably needed to be easier and clearer. I went home from the pub and purchased our domain!
What things do you enjoy most in your job as It Wont Cost The Earth Boss Lady?
Ooo I like the term ‘Boss Lady’! I love chatting with all the amazing businesses owners who sell through us – you guys are so inspiring. I also love shopping their products as often as possible – I definitely practice what I preach! I have also learnt I like being in control and having the final say on big decisions!
What things do you enjoy least?
I hate turning small businesses away – I want to support everyone but our requirements are quite strict – they have to be! I actually really hate social media but its such a powerful tool that it has to be embraced. I want to make sure we use it properly to inspire and never to preach or make people feel bad about themselves.
Any advice for anyone starting out in the world of small biz ownership?
Do it! Ignore your inner critic who tells you that you will fail. Who cares if you do? It would be so much worse if you hadn’t tried in the first place.
What are your hopes and dreams for the future of It Wont Cost The Earth? Where do you see yourself in 3 years time?
I would like to have helped lots of the businesses who sell through us to have made their side hustle become their main hustle. I’d like shopping sustainably to be a concern for everyone – we all need to be more aware of the cost to the environment of all of our purchases.
What’s your favourite breakfast?
Where can we find you?In a pub beer garden, in the sunshine with my whippet Bella. But failing that, online at www.itwontcosttheearth.com, over on Insta at www.instagram.com/itwontcosttheearth or on Facebook www.facebook.com/itwontcosttheearth
